Chuadanga Railway Station – Location, Timetable, Train Schedule and Ticket Booking

Chuadanga Railway Station

Chuadanga Railway Station, the first railway station in Bangladesh, is located in Chuadanga town, under the Chuadanga district. It has long served the residents of Chuadanga as well as neighboring areas like Meherpur and Jhenaidah with essential rail services.

In 1859, the Eastern Bengal Railway Company began constructing a 5′ 4″ broad-gauge single railway line from Kolkata to Kushtia (Jagati), and construction of Chuadanga Railway Station started the same year, completing in 1860. Train operations officially commenced on 15 November 1862 with the opening of the Kolkata–Kushtia (Jagati) line.

At that time, they installed an overhead water tank for steam engines beside the station and built a footbridge for passengers. Since then, Chuadanga Railway Station has continuously served the people of Chuadanga, Meherpur, and Jhenaidah through two railway lines and two platforms.

Following the Partition of India in 1947, railway communication in Bengal was significantly affected. During British rule, overnight trains regularly ran between Kolkata, Goalanda, Dhaka, and Narayanganj. After partition, three trains, the East Bengal Mail, East Bengal Express, and Barisal Express, continued cross-border service between the two countries until operations ceased in 1965.
