Cox’s Bazar Railway Station, located near the city’s bus terminal, is a significant new addition to Bangladesh’s rail network. On November 11, 2023, the country hailed it as its first iconic railway station.

The Bangladesh government initiated a railway expansion from Dohazari in Chittagong to Gundum in Bandarban, aiming to connect with the trans-Asian railway network via the proposed Ghumdhum station. The Cox’s Bazar station, designed by architect Mohammad Foyez Ullah, features an oyster-shaped exterior symbolizing the beach. On January 14, 2021, the foundation stone fell, marking a total cost of Tk 214 crore. They completed 45% of the work by January 2022 and reached 85% by March 2023.

The station terminal consists of five floors, with the top floor reserved for future use. The ground floor includes ticket counters, government services, shops, and other facilities.

The first floor serves as the departure lounge and features lifts, stairs, washrooms, baby care services, escalators, waiting areas, lockers, tourist information desks, product display centers, and prayer rooms. This floor also connects to a departure footbridge.
