History Of Rangpur Railway Station
The British took the initiative to connect Rangpur with Kolkata and encourage trade and commerce by extending the railway to several police stations in the city. In that regard, a railway line was concurrently opened in 1878 from Poradaha in the the Nadia district to Rangpur city and Jalpaiguri, which had just broken away from Rangpur, as part of the first phase. The area surrounding Rangpur Station was named Robertsonganj after British businessman Robert Watson because  the British loved doing business in Rangpur. at order to construct a railway factory at Rangpur, the British government requested property from the landowner of Tajhat in the Rangpur district in 1870. Instead of donating land in Rangpur city, the landlord consented to contribute land in Saidpur village, which is near the Darwani police station. As a sign of respect, the British government later allowed him to travel around India for free in a saloon coach, a privilege he continued to enjoy until his passing. A direct railway route from Rangpur to Assam was later created by the British government, along with a railway junction at Lalmonirhat hamlet of Barabari Thana in Rangpur district. The Teesta Railway Bridge was constructed in 1901 near Kaunia in the Rangpur district’s Mahiganj Thana. From Bonarpara in Saghata thana to Kaunia in Mahiganj thana in Rangpur district, a railway line was established in 1905.
